Amazon customers will not be able to purchase an Apple TV or Google Chromecast from the online shopping Web site.

Amazon has said it will no longer stock media streaming devices such as the Apple TV and Google Chromecast on its online shop.

This is because these devices are not easily compatible with Amazon's video-on-demand (VOD) service, Prime Video.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Amazon sent an e-mail to sellers saying it will stop selling devices that do not "interact well" with Prime Video. No new listings for the products will be allowed and posting of existing inventory will be removed on 29 October, Amazon said.

Both Google and Apple recently announced new models of these devices.

Streaming devices such as the Roku, Xbox and PlayStation, which all support Prime Video, will still be sold on the site.
