Discovery Health will give Vitality members free Apple Watches, if they can reach personalised monthly fitness goals.

The Discovery Apple Watch App went live today, as well as a partnership that rewards active Vitality members with an Apple Watch.

Discovery Health will give Vitality members free Apple Watches if the members are able to complete four-monthly fitness goals in 24 months. If members fail to meet their goals, they will be charged a penalty fee.

Vitality members will need to sign up for the Vitality Active Rewards programme, which is accessed through the Discovery smartphone app - under Vitality. Once activated, Discovery will set goals for each member, personalised to their fitness history. The goals will, thereafter, go up and down depending on how users perform.

To qualify for the Apple Watch deal, members will have to have a Discovery credit card with a credit limit of at least R10 000 and R600 available. Users apply for the Apple Watch online, pay a once-off non-refundable activation fee of R350 on their Discovery credit card, and then pick up the watch at the nearest iStore.

Only the Apple Watch Sport 38mm is available, but members can pay in the difference at the store if they would like a different model.

Penalty payments are calculated on what the repayments would be on the watch over 24 months. The Apple Watch Sport 38mm is sold at a retail price of R5 899. If users fail to meet their fitness goals, the penalty payment could be as much as R250.

Penalty cost, per month, if weekly goals are not met:

0 -1 goal met: R245.79
2 goals met: R184.34
3 goals met: R122.90
4 goals met: R0
