MTN says it has now reconnected approximately 44 000 accounts that were suspended erroneously due to a billing issue.
"The system has been restored and is now running optimally and all impacted customers are able to be make calls, upgrade and add services," MTN said in a statement this afternoon.
Customers had over the past few days taken to social media to complain of numerous billing mistakes, with some users cut off from services because of the error.
Yesterday MTN SA tweeted that it was aware of the billing issues and the MTN team was "working on resolving it".
"As the system has been fully restored, affected customers are unable to access certain data services such as purchasing data bundles through a USSD," MTN also said in its statement today.
"MTN apologises to all affected customers for any inconvenience this may have caused."
