ITWeb Events in association with Geekulcha and Snode is happy to announce that #SS17HACK is now open for registration and we are looking for you! Young talent that is keen to develop their skills through learning and innovation with an ardent interest in information security.

You may well ask - who are we?

  • ITWeb Events brings you the 12th Security Summit, the largest of its kind in Southern Africa.
  • Snode a start-up that is taking the security scene by storm with their mathematical approach to cyber-security.
  • Geekulcha, featured for the first time at Security Summit in 2016, and focused on empowering young geeks through ICT skills development, training and industry exposure.


'Challenging disruptive innovators to build the most secure systems possible. The Hackathon will also be used to explore new innovative mechanisms for the security sector.'

Choose from a number of themes (listed below) or bring your own innovative idea to the table during the registration process and you could be called to take part in a one day IDEATHON on 22 April 2017 where the various stakeholders will make their final selection. ONLY 30 will get the opportunity to mingle with and be mentored by the greatest minds in infosec in South Africa and globally while developing the most innovative security platform.


In order to guide you in the right direction and give you a fighting chance of being one of ONLY 30 pre-selected candidates to participate in #SS17HACK at the prestigious ITWeb Security Summit we asked the mentors and judges for a few ideas:

1. Finance
  • An Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cognitive fraud detection system
  • Propose a model and system architecture for cheaply but safely distributing pension pay-outs to people in rural areas
  • Design and develop an OTP system for Internet Banking that doesn't require the use of a mobile phone
2. Public Sector
  • Twitter intelligence solution
  • Blockchain voting system
3. Retail
  • IoT cashless no-point of sale solution
4. Other
  • Design and develop a system that will note whether your mobile phone is in the vicinity when you log onto your computer and deny access if it isn't
