Smart Office Technologies has signed a deal with InfoPrint Solutions SA to distribute InfoPrint's multifunctional printers in southern Africa.

Darren Cohen, MD of Smart Office Technologies, says after 10 months of negotiations with InfoPrint Solutions SA, an agreement had been reached and the printers are expected to be available early next year.

Cohen aims, over the next couple of years, to build a dealer network for the InfoPrint multifunctional product range across SA as well as selected countries in southern Africa.

Cohen notes: “This is a great opportunity for Smart Office Technologies as well as for our customers to have high-quality machines at a competitive price. We will be competing against some of the biggest brands out there, and we intend to be aggressive with our pricing. We have warehouse space in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.”

He says the company's market ranges from the home office to larger enterprises. “Multifunctional printers are doing well because their running costs are more affordable than that of standalone devices.”

InfoPrint is a joint venture between Ricoh and IBM's Printing Systems Division. Ricoh will progressively acquire 49% of the division over the next three years from IBM, making it a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ricoh.
