Dell and Microsoft have unveiled the Dell Reseller Option Kit (ROK) which will make the Microsoft server operating systems available to the channel.

Dell ROK is a software distribution option that allows customers to order the server software from Dell distributors, separately from Dell's server hardware, says Kobus de Beer, enterprise brand manager, Dell Africa.

He says the software comes with 90 days of support directly from Dell, customised installation tools, and is certified to work with Dell servers, which minimises installation and configuration efforts. “These benefits will enable distributors and partners to be more responsive to client needs by easily delivering customised, high-performance hardware and software configurations.”

According to De Beer, each Dell ROK is locked to the BIOS (basic input/output system) of Dell-branded servers. Aimed at new hardware deployments only, Dell ROK will not work on a white box or old servers, he points out.

“Dell ROK's portfolio is made up of most common Microsoft server operating systems platforms,“ says De Beer. The packages will be available at Dell distributors in the next few weeks.
