Adobe Photoshop turns 20 today and fans around the world are celebrating the software's impact on photography, art, design, publishing and commerce, says Adobe.

In the US, the National Association of Photoshop Professionals hosted a 20th anniversary celebration for over 1 000 attendees at the Palace of the Fine Arts Theatre, in San Francisco.

Adobe says the event featured the company's senior vice-president of creative solutions, John Loiacono; vice-president of Photoshop product management, Kevin Connor; Photoshop co-creator, Thomas Knoll; and Adobe creative director and Photoshop evangelist, Russell Brown.

The festivities continue in Japan, South-east Asia, and throughout Europe. In honour of the anniversary, Adobe Germany will host a 20-hour online marathon, featuring over 15 local Photoshop 'gurus' demonstrating their tips and tricks live for Photoshop fans, says Adobe.

In India and France, digital imaging contests will be held to showcase the work of Photoshop users. An Adobe TV broadcast will also air today, reuniting the original Photoshop team for the first time in 18 years, to discuss their early work on the software and demonstrate Photoshop 1.0 on a rebuilt Macintosh computer, adds Adobe.
