Bidvest Group company, Minolta South Africa, has introduced the Konica Minolta bizhub PRO 920, a 92 page per minute (ppm) digital multifunctional printer targeted at the professional production print market and high-volume office environments.

Minolta SA copier division product manager, Paul Symonds, says the machine has already received the Buyers Laboratory Inc "Pick of the Year" award for an "Outstanding Segment 6 (80 - 92ppm) Multifunctional Imaging System". "This device is an affordable production machine that combines high output speed with a wide range of finishing capabilities and excellent imaging quality," he says.

In addition to its 92ppm print speed and equally fast scan and copy speeds, the Konica Minolta bizhub PRO 920 has a warm-up time of 5.5 minutes and a first-copy output time of 3.1 seconds. It has a total paper capacity of 6 650 pages and is able to print paper sizes ranging from postcard up to A3 wide and weights from 50 to 200g/m^2. To handle this, the machine has a large number of error-correction features that minimise misfeeding and misalignment, as well as a large number of design enhancements for improved durability.

The Konica Minolta bizhub PRO 920 has a 600 x 600dpi output quality (2 400 x 600dpi with smoothing enhancement) and uses Konica Minolta Simitri polymerised toner, which delivers improved particle uniformity and results in sharp image quality, even for fine text and subtle halftones. The toner also fixes at a lower temperature, which minimises paper curling and results in better page alignment for accurate stapling.

With optional finishing units, users have access to 2-fold, Z-fold, letter fold, multi-position stapling and post insertion of cover and inner sheets from separate sources. Centre stapling and trimming are also available.

Symonds says the Konica Minolta bizhub PRO 920 was designed to fit into a back office network just as easily as into a pay for print or CRD environment. "In addition, the scanner function allows users to transfer scan data directly to a variety of locations, including e-mail addresses, FTP sites, PCs, the internal HDD or to any combination simultaneously," he says.

Confidential data is kept safe by means of user authentication, protection or deletion or temporary data and logging of all activity for administrator review. The device has been awarded level 3 certification, the highest level of security for industrial use ISO 15408.

Additional software includes PageScope Spooler for centralising the management of all active print jobs, PageScope Direct Print for convenient drag and drop printing of PDF and TIF files without requiring printer drivers or application software, and PageScope Web Connection for monitoring machine status and settings via connected PCs.
