Internet Solutions optimises leased line spend

Fact Sheet
Solution: Qualica Telco Management System
Industry: Telecoms
Provider: Internet Solutions
User:

When Internet Solutions (IS) needed a new system to manage its leased lines and provide accurate reporting to sales, operations, and management teams, it enlisted the help of Qualica Technologies.

As South Africa's premier ISP, IS is often requested to have long-term telecommunication contracts for its physical leased lines in order to provide its clients, which include many of SA's top corporates, an end-to-end connectivity service.

IS thus needed to ensure that its leased line spending was optimised with enough capacity to provide for the needs of its clients without leaving expensive bandwidth under-utilised, or worse still, un-used.

However, in the course of recycling lines among short-term customers, freed-up lines were difficult to track. If these were not re-allocated efficiently, it would lead to a loss of revenue.

With no proven off-the-shelf solutions available, IS requested Qualica's help in developing a bespoke solution to manage its leased lines and consolidate its quoting, ordering, reporting and billing processes.

This would enable IS to ensure that newly-dormant lines would be easily identified and utilised. Automating the system would also provide a measure of straight-through processing, eliminating the repeated capture of identical information by different departments. Qualica's Telco Management System allows information to flow freely from one department to another and to be updated during the process flow.

As part of the implementation, Qualica integrated the system with IS's internal authentication systems so that users could use their existing corporate usernames and passwords to gain access. It also had to be integrated with the Siebel customer relationship management system to allow existing workflow and job references to be used seamlessly.

Invoices from the Telco (which are often not in the same format) are now automatically imported into the system along with spreadsheets for new line or upgrade applications. This provides IS with a 360 degree overview of all activities on its leased line rental business, enhances workflow and improves customer service.

The Qualica Telco Management system provides IS with a Web-based interface, which eliminates user installation headaches.

Building on the large-scale project management and system development experience it has gained in working with customers like 1time airlines and Discovery Health, Qualica also brought its deep knowledge of systems integration and Web-based applications to bear on IS's behalf. The result has been greater productivity, more automated and efficient processes, greater workflow control to ensure consistency, more efficient recycling of resources and, importantly, cost savings.
