Mpofu to head SABC

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has appointed IT personality Dali Mpofu as its new CEO.

Weekend media reports said the SABC released a statement on Friday stating: “During the selection process, the board was particularly impressed with Advocate Mpofu`s insight into the use of technology to deliver content to new audiences as required by the SABC`s recently published licence conditions and its strategic plans.”

Mpofu said this morning that he was not willing to comment on his appointment yet, as he still has to consult with the minister of communications, Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, as well as “sort out” other issues related to his new appointment.

Mpofu previously held a number of positions, including ANC deputy head for the social welfare department, advocate of the High Court of South Africa, and currently group executive director for corporate affairs at Altron Group.

He was also a trainee international advocacy teacher at Grays Inn, in London.

As chairman of the IT industry`s black empowerment charter working group, Mpofu played a key role in the transformation process for the IT industry.
