In a drive to create awareness and raise funds for charity, Telspace Systems succeeded in getting many delegates to wear "Hackers for Charity" T-shirts at ITWeb Security Summit 2008, in Midrand, this week.

By the end of the third day, there were approximately 460 T-shirts given out from the original 500 that were printed. "For any delegate that wore a T-shirt at the summit, Telspace Systems will donate R20 to Johnny Long's Hackers for Charity initiative," explained Dino Covotsos, CEO of Telspace Systems.

Although there were some T-shirts left, Covotsos decided to donate R20 for all 500 T-shirts originally bought, totalling R10 000 to go to Hackers for Charity.

"We really had a fantastic response from the delegates. CEO, directors and techies alike were all wearing the T-shirts."

Covotsos said there was a decent amount of requests from individuals and companies about how they can further their involvement in Long's charity initiative.

"Our aim was to create awareness and we seemed to have inspired many to get involved. It is amazing to see how keen people are to help."

Covotsos would like to continue promoting and donating to Hackers for Charity at future Security Summits. "ITWeb was also very helpful with punting the charity drive before and during the conference."

Furthermore, Covotsos plans to get more involved in other local and international charities.
