Intekom taps into retail market

Johannesburg, 15 Jun 1998

One of South Africa`s leading Internet service providers, Intekom has signed an agreement with distributor HNR Computers which aims to provide at least 500 users per month with convenient, inexpensive Internet access via an Internet starter kit. The agreement extends Intekom`s reach by providing access to HNR`s established retail distribution channel of about 6 500 dealers - from large retailers to value-added resellers countrywide. Through HNR, Intekom will supply its Internet starter kit for dial-up Internet connection to retail outlets free of charge. Retailers that stock the kits will resell them between R79.00 and R99.00 to end -users. The package will also include modem setup and support. In addition, HNR plans on promoting and facilitating sales of Intekom leased line services in the corporate sector. "There is an Internet solution for everyone - from the home user through to the corporate client," says Inthiaz Cassimji, HNR group business unit manager. Key benefits for resellers, says Cassimji, are the low cost of conducting business in the Internet arena, plus easy returns in relation to investment. "Intekom and HNR Computers envisage steep growth in the Internet access market and plan to be at the forefront in presenting a value added, cost effective solution," he adds. HNR, which is among the top three IT distributors in South Africa, represents only Intekom in the Internet service provider sector. "Our aim was to forge links and a long term relationship with a company which is an industry leader, providing high quality services," says Cassimji. Intekom provides `the best Internet solution, feature benefits and consumer products`, according to HNR sales director Cassim Parak. "We are committed to marketing Intekom because of its complementary products and large customer base," he says. Intekom, in turn, has an exclusive distribution agreement with HNR. Faruk Waja, marketing executive at Intekom says that Intekom aims to facilitate Internet access by providing `the most affordable, reliable and user-friendly service`.
