Samsung Electronics SA is providing backing, training and smart solutions to 300 Grade 12 students nationwide in an effort to improve learning experiences and reduce the digital gap.

According to Samsung, initial rollout of devices has been done in the Eastern Cape with other regions to follow.

Eastern Cape pupils received Samsung Galaxy 7inch tablets in May 2014 as part of an initiative run by MOCKS IT Solutions in partnership with MTN, to deliver educational solutions to pupils who have no computer facilities.

MOCKS IT, an IT outsourcing organisation, is engaged in consultation with both Samsung and MTN Business around the solutions available to provide education through technology, says Samsung.

"This is a superb example of how technology, commitment and focus can bring about change in South Africa," says Samsung.

Samsung points out that technology has played a huge role in digitising the traditional classroom to improve the effectiveness of both teaching and learning in schools.

In addition, the shifting educational landscape means that schools now have new opportunities to provide personalised and adaptive learning to pupils.

Also, many education institutions are building their investment roadmaps aligned to this paradigm shift and the Samsung smart school solution delivers the latest technologies to support this change.

Samsung smart school solution is a mobile educational solution that enables students and teachers to benefit from a broad range of education-related information on their mobile device.

It includes up-to-date school information, access to crucial learning resources and real-time attendance and participation trackers.

"Our approach to education is about providing solutions to ensure that e-learning implementations are sustainable and deliver the curriculum efficiently to improve learning outcomes," said Paulo Ferreira, head of enterprise mobility at Samsung SA.

He adds that in order to implement an effective e-learning solution it is essential to consider the right hardware as well as the content and services that enhance the learning experience which is precisely what Samsung offers.

"We have committed to providing educators and students with rich and interactive educational experiences through our Galaxy tablet," says Ferreira. "It allows students to enjoy the portability and connectivity they need to work anywhere," he concludes.
