Storage solutions giant EMC yesterday announced the acquisition of cloud solutions provider TwinStrata for an undisclosed amount.

During the EMC Redefine Possible event hosted in London yesterday, Jeremy Burton, president, EMC Products, marketing and solutions, said with the acquisition, EMC plans to enable seamless public cloud access as an embedded data service for VMAX 3 customers.

During the event, EMC also rolled out the VMAX3 Family, which it says transforms VMAX from enterprise storage to an enterprise data service platform.

Burton noted that VMAX3's new embedded cloud access capabilities will be delivered through TwinStrata.

He pointed out that TwinStrata's advanced cloud tiering technology enables customers to move infrequently accessed data to the public cloud for lower TCO. TwinStrata supports many of the leading public cloud providers on the market today, and will add support for other market leaders as well, he added.

TwinStrata integration details will be announced at a later date.
