SITA now falls under Siyabonga Cwele's department, according to a proclamation signed by president Jacob Zuma.

Government has transferred administration of the legislation that enables the State IT Agency (SITA) to the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS) as president Jacob Zuma's new administration takes shape.

Zuma signed a proclamation last week, placing SITA under Cwele's stewardship at the DTPS. SITA was previously under the oversight of the Department of Public Service and Administration.

The move is part of government's shake-up of ICT management and follows the split of communications ministries announced in May.

The role of the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) was also clarified in the proclamation, with the entity remaining under the new Department of Communications (DOC) led by Faith Muthambi.

According to the proclamation, DTPS will also oversee the following legislations:

* Sentech Act
* Electronic Communications Act
* Electronic Communications and Transactions Act

The DOC will also oversee the following legislations:

* Broadcasting Act
* Independent Communications Authority of South Africa Act
* Media Development and Diversity Agency Act
