Sentech says, despite a strike that has been ongoing since Saturday, its operations have not been disrupted.

Strike action at state-owned signal provider Sentech, which started on Saturday afternoon, is ongoing but it is business as usual at the company's nation-wide operations.

This is according to Sentech, which says negotiations between the company and the Communication Workers' Union (CWU) are ongoing. The state-owned entity has confirmed over 200 CWU members - from its bargaining unit - remain on strike.

Yesterday's protracted negotiation meetings between Sentech and CWU representatives failed to yield a resolution, the company said in a statement.

"There have been no disturbances on operations at any of [Sentech's] Operation Centres countrywide," said the company.

As of close of business yesterday, says Sentech, the majority of employees had turned up for work. "Those who participated in the strike are generally those employees who are located in head office at Radiokop, Honeydew.

"Sentech wants to reiterate its commitment to descent wages for its employees and will continue to negotiate in good faith with CWU with the hope that CWU will review its approach with a view of enabling an amicable solution to be reached."

Sentech ? which is mandated with providing broadcasting signal distribution to licensed television and radio broadcasters, and data connectivity services to public institutions and private enterprises - yesterday said it was concerned about the impact the strike may have on its customers and stakeholders.

As for the CWU's demands, Sentech says these are "unfortunate" as they "will have a negative effect on the sustainability of the business" if the company were to accept them.
