Business Connexion (BCX) says its UCS Technology Services entity is expanding its portfolio with the pending acquisition of Argility's small and medium enterprise division, for an undisclosed amount.

The deal, which comes into effect tomorrow, sees UCS acquire intellectual property in 14 software products, customer contracts and staff all associated with the division.

The products include:
* WinBranch
* Retail Office (excluding Quick Service Restaurants), RMS and Wprotill
* Dolfin and Dolfin Live
* Retailman
* ActiveRetail and ActiveStudio
* Unisolv
* Ultisales
* Adept
* Precept
* UniPlus

BCX says the products are "feature-rich retail applications" for use in vertical retail sectors such as fuel, general merchandise, clothing, pharmaceutical, building supplies, grocery and cellular.

Rob Monteith, CEO of UCS Technology Services, explains: "UCS TS and Argility have a long-term partnership that offers retailers world-class solutions that we've jointly introduced and implemented in many retailers and seen consistent growth."

BCX announced at the end of 2010 that it would buy the bulk of UCS, including Accsys, CEB Maintenance Africa, Destiny Electronic Commerce, UCS Solutions, as well as UCS Technology Services. All of the subsidiaries - apart from Destiny, in which UCS has a 70% stake - are wholly-owned by the listed software company.

BCX paid R614 million, making it the largest acquisition the group has made. It later sold a 70% stake in Destiny to VeriFone Singapore, a subsidiary of VeriFone Systems, for R255 million.

Argility CEO Neels van Tonder says the deal will also see UCS continue to represent Argility as a value-added reseller for its new generation retail applications and will allow the software company to focus on its enterprise retail and financial services customers.
