Signal provider Sentech says negotiations to end the strike action launched by employees affiliated to the Communication Workers Union (CWU) remain deadlocked, following a meeting between the parties this afternoon.

Workers downed tools on Saturday, two days after notifying the company.

According to Sentech, the impasse is centred on the CWU's demand for a 19% increase on basic salaries for employees in the 2014/15 period.

"The initial union demand equated to a 56% increase in basic salary on average per employee for 2014/15.

"These demands would be applicable to all the bargaining unit members," says Sentech in a statement.

The company says CWU's demands are "not affordable and will have a negative effect on the sustainability of the business".

Services remain stable since the strike started, says Sentech, adding it will channel its remaining capacity on minimising the impact on customers.

"Sentech remains open and agreeable to further engagements with the union in order to resolve the current dispute."
