Transport minister Dipuo Peters has accepted Sanral chairperson Tembakazi Mnyaka's resignation.

A National Roads Agency (Sanral) chairperson Tembakazi Mnyaka has resigned with immediate effect, citing personal reasons.

Department of Transport (DOT) spokesperson Tiyani Rikhotso said this morning that transport minister Dipuo Peters had received a letter of resignation from Mnyaka. "Ms Mnyaka has indicated the resignation takes effect immediately, citing personal reasons for her decision."

Peters accepted Mnyaka's resignation and wished her well in her future endeavours. "I wish to thank Ms Mnyaka for her efforts in ensuring that Sanral continues to discharge its mandate of building and maintaining SA's national road network."

Mnyaka has chaired Sanral's board of directors since 2012 - when controversy over e-tolling started to heat up in earnest.

The impact of government's electronic tolling system, which has been live since 3 December, is currently being assessed by a review panel that was recently set up by Gauteng Premier David Makhura. The panel is looking into "the socio-economic impact of e-tolling on the citizens of Gauteng".

Mnyaka previously served as deputy president of the Black Management Forum, after starting her career in retail as a trainee manager at Woolworths.

According toWho'swho, the majority of Mnyaka's experience to date lies in the public sector, with environmental planning, urban renewal and local economic development all areas in which she has specialised.

Mnyaka holds a diploma in project management, a certificate in project management and a project leadership certificate. She achieved a BA in social science and has a master's degree in town and regional planning from the University of Natal.
