Deloitte SA has decreased its annual mobile voice and data bill by 26% as a result of using Nebula's Enterprise Mobile Management Services (EMMS).

According to Daniel Nel, CEO of Nebula, the cloud-based mobile monitoring and life cycle management platform gives companies the ability to get a handle on their mobile devices, SIM cards, contracts and spend, in real-time and across all service providers.

This gives companies the knowledge and insight they need to make strategic business decisions about their mobile spend, from extending data bundles, to down- or upgrading service plans and choosing the best combination of service providers, adds Nel.

Nebula's initial engagement with Deloitte started with a mobile environment audit. The results showed that Deloitte lacked true visibility of actual mobile costs it incurred, says Nel.

"We were flying blind and had to take control of this landscape. With Nebula's EMMS, we have real time visibility on what is happening, allowing us to make strategic decisions and changes before we get the bill at the end of the month," said Jacques Barkhuizen, CIO for Deloitte.

Once the initial audit was concluded, a mobile optimisation programme was initiated.

Nebula collected all the required financial information through EMMS where the automated business intelligence system module analysed and immediately identified areas of cost and management improvements, says Nel.

Also, it deployed the system's real-time integrated notification and alert notifications which proactively provides true cost visibility down to end-user level.

With alerts and notifications deployed, Deloitte's out-of-bundle data costs on standalone 3G cards reduced immediately. Managing the out-of-bundle cost proactively contributed to Deloitte's overall bill decrease of 26%, reveals Nel.

According to Nel, the Nebula EMMS platform interfaces directly with South African mobile services providers and also with the enterprise resource planning software and processes used by Deloitte.

This provides Deloitte with an aggregated single view of mobile spend, mapped against cost centres and HR information. The interface with the service providers is a two-way street, allowing Deloitte to make changes from within the EMMS platform, he adds.

"Today's professionals need to be connected when they are on the go, but companies simply have no central view over what is happening," says Nel.

"This leads to two challenges, firstly keeping track of where assets are, whether they are being used and allocating costs to the relevant department; and secondly, proactively managing spend and service provider selection to avoid a nasty surprise at the end of the month when nothing can be done about an enormous bill except coughing up and paying."
