Vodacom to offer new mid-tier Sony

Vodacom has announced a partnership with Sony that will see it exclusively launching the new mid-tierSony Xperia M2 Aquanext month.

Featuring a 4.8-inch qHD display, the Xperia M2 Aqua will be available in store as of mid-September, at a recommended retail price of R4 199.

According to Sony, the M2 Aqua is the first mid-range device that features the company's waterproofing technology. The manufacturer says the Xperia M2 Aqua can immersed down to 1.5 metres in fresh water, for up to 30 minutes.

Based on the same waterproof design as the manufacturer's flagship devices, the Xperia Z1 and Z2, the M2 Aqua is also protected against fine dust particles.

The phone runs Android 4.4 (KitKat) and has the following key features: an 8-megapixel rear camera and 1.1 megapixel front-facing camera, 2300mAH battery, Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with quad-core 1.2 GHz CPU and 4G LTE capabilities.

The device weighs 149 grams and its dimensions are 140mm x 72mm x 8.6mm.

Vodacom says, as part of an exclusive offer from Sony Mobile and its parent company, Vodafone, Xperia M2 Aqua owners will have access to a content offer out of the box with three blockbuster movies from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. These include The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Captain Phillips and Ghostbusters - as well as the full first season of the TV series The Blacklist.

Just over a week ago Sony launched another mid-range smartphone, the Xperia T3, which it says is targeted at South African consumers "with a keen eye on fashion trends". The Xperia T3 is expected to be available in SA from the end of August.
