Telkom has announced the appointment of Jacqui O'Sullivan as managing executive of group communication and public relations.

O'Sullivan, who is experienced in the fields of media and corporate communication, will take up her new role with Telkom on 15 September.

O'Sullivan joins Telkom from Sasol, where she was vice-president of group corporate branding and communication. She also fulfilled an executive communication role at Motorola for the Middle East and Africa, and was head of communication and corporate social investment at South African Airways.

O'Sullivan started her career as a journalist at the Sunday Independent and Saturday Star.

Enzo Scarcella, Telkom's chief marketing officer, says O'Sullivan's previous experience and track record in communications makes her "a clear fit" for Telkom as the company moves to reposition itself in the ICT industry.

"She will be instrumental in guiding how we communicate with key stakeholders and customers."

O'Sullivan, who holds a BA in English and politics from the University of Stellenbosch, says she looks forward to joining Telkom's team.

Earlier this year, Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko said new appointments would be a key part of the company's turnaround.

Maseko has been moving to bolster the company's leadership structure since last year. In November, when he announced the appointment of former Vodacom executive Scarcella, he said it formed part of Telkom's efforts to "renew" its top leadership team.

"In the near future, we will have a capable and dedicated team in place to plan and guide Telkom's transformation," he said at the time.
