Connet Systems reaches level four BEE status

Pretoria, 01 Sep 2014

Since being founded in 2007, Connet Systems has focused on elements of good practice such as enterprise development, skills development and socio-economic development contributions.

Towards the end of the 2013 financial year, Connet Systems' BEE classification was a level six. It has continued to ensure its contribution to Cotlands is sustained through the undertaking of regular SMS broadcasts to promote Cotlands' special days, such as World Play Day (28 May), Cotlands' birthday (1 August) or SA Children's Day (1 November). The company has also continued the development of USSD applications to enable parents or guardians to see where the next learning session will be held.

In order to act as a competitor in a market that is driven by bidding processes, it was imperative that Connet Systems ensures a higher level is reached. By undertaking internal skills development with its junior developers, the company achieved a higher level.

The South African Black Economic Rating Agency lists five reasons as to why companies should comply with BBBEE:

* Pressure from customers;
* Individual companies achieve greater compliance when they purchase from suppliers with high compliance levels;
* A compliant company will obtain a competitive advantage over its non-compliant competitors;
* Companies that do business with government departments are required by law to demonstrate compliance with the Codes of Good Practice. Tenders, licences or concessions may be withheld from non-compliant companies; and
* Voluntary compliance creates economic opportunities for all.

With the overall assistance of Core BEE, Connet Systems - as small enterprise (with big dreams and big rewards) - has been able to act as a level four contributor, with a recognition level of 100%.

For other smaller enterprises not yet in the position to qualify against this code of good practice, SABERA has identified these seven elements to keep in mind:

* Who owns the business?
* Who controls the business?
* Who works in the business?
* Who is trained by the business?
* Who does the business make purchases from?
* What efforts does the business make to develop enterprises external to itself?
* What contributions does the business make for social causes?

Frank de Graaf, COO of Connet Systems, states the following: "Connet Systems believes that true social development is not something that should be taken on as a matter of necessity, but rather embraced as a means of empowering all South Africans to reach their full potential, regardless of social and economic backgrounds."
