An investigation into allegations of cloned number plates used by Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko has been completed and a docket is now with the police, the Sunday Times reports.

The paper quotes Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) director Gerrie Gerneke, who notes that the matter is now a criminal case. "We have more than enough information against this man," he said.

Gerneke said Maseko will have to appear in court, since there has been no admission of guilt from him.

Maseko allegedly accumulated around R30 000 in traffic fines using the cloned number plates.

Shortly after the allegations surfaced in July, Telkom noted that they were a personal matter involving Maseko, and are "in no way related to Telkom". As such, the telco said at the time, the CEO will deal with it in his personal capacity.

The paper says Maseko maintains that he is cooperating with authorities, but will not comment as no official charges have been laid.
