Obsidian Systems, an established South African supplier of open source software solutions, and GuruHut, a collective of Java programmers, have announced a partnership that will result in an integrated solution for the local Red Hat JBoss middleware market, as well as much needed additional skill sets.

Obsidian is an enterprise open source solutions provider and long-term Red Hat partner. In light of this partnership, Obsidian is in the process of certifying to become a premier middleware partner for Red Hat JBoss, the division that specialises in writing and supporting open source middleware.

This middleware is a family of lightweight, cloud-friendly enterprise products that are designed to empower enterprises with what is described as "enlightened innovation". The value proposition of this product portfolio is that it assists users to accelerate application development, deployment and performance, as well as automate business processes across various environments, particularly the cloud.

Adding value to the enterprise through the integration of leading software solutions is a vision shared by Obsidian Systems and GuruHut.

GuruHut is an established software development house that applies agile methodology to roll-out game-changing enterprise solutions.

A direct spin-off benefit of the alliance is GuruHut as a source of in-demand skill sets around JBoss middleware.

Moreover, the partnership will mean a combination of services and thereby provide an integrated solution for the South African market.

"We are excited about this partnership and we anticipate that it will yield significant benefit for local adopters of Red Hat infrastructure and Java-based applications to support innovation and connectivity - especially at a time when cloud models, including the hybrid, are generating more interest," explained Muggie van Staden, MD at Obsidian Systems.

Grant Finnemore, owner and CEO of GuruHut, believes the Java technologies will find greater application in the domestic market, spurred on by the establishment of working relationships between market leaders such as itself and Obsidian Systems. "Experience is everything in this market and service delivery, along with solution quality, is what differentiates. Our objective with this partnership is clear - empowerment of enterprises and raising the bar on open source technology application."
