Microsoft has announced the availability of the Lumia 530 in SA, promising "many of the innovations and services found in high-end Lumia smartphones" at a recommended retail price of R1 349.

Describing the device as "a powerful entry to Windows Phone 8.1", Microsoft says the price aims to attract more users into its ecosystem. Shaun Durandt, GM for mobile device sales at Microsoft SA, said: "With high-end apps, features and exceptional build quality at an amazing price, the Lumia 530 sets the benchmark for high-quality, affordable smartphones."

In a statement released today, Microsoft said the Lumia 530 runs on a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, delivering a lag-free user experience for apps, gaming and Internet browsing on the 4-inch display. It also promises "seamless integration with Microsoft services such as Skype and Microsoft Office".

Other specs include:

* A 1 430mAh battery capacity, promising up to 22 hours standby and 13 hours of 2G talk time.

* A 5MP camera.

* 512MB RAM.

* Offline services that help save time and money, including uninterrupted music streaming with MixRadio, and maps with offline navigation both home and abroad.

* 4GB on-board memory, expandable with SD cards of up to 128GB. It also has an additional 15GB of free cloud storage on OneDrive that lets users sync, store, access and share files between the device and computers, laptops and tablets.
