The MTN App of the Year, a conceptual child of the Creative Space Media and MTN Business partnership, came to a close with the official award ceremony on Thursday 14 August.

The event showcased a wide number of locally developed apps, from business to consumer-based, looking at their impact over the last 12 months on the local enterprise and market.

Sponsors included Samsung, Core Group, Microsoft, Nokia and mLab. Grove Group was incredibly proud when its app was awarded runner up in the Best Android Enterprise App category.

The vision behind the app

Maxidor, a leader in South African home security manufacturing, had envisioned that it could provide its sales agents with a mobile application to streamline the full sales, manufacturing and installation process. Grove Group was an already existing IT vendor of Maxidor, and subsequently leveraged the Journey platform to rapidly build and deploy a mobile solution for Maxidor.

"We are incredibly proud of this recognition," said Grove Group CEO, Pip Witheridge, when discussing the runner-up award. "We stand in celebration with Maxidor and Journey, and truly do believe that Grove's mobile application development platform and the use of advanced predictive analytics is an innovative move forward in an enterprise that is becoming increasingly mobile and paperless."

The app in practice

The app, integrated with Maxidor's existing Google Apps suite and accounting systems, enables call centre agents to utilise Google Forms as a means of capturing lead information; this is automatically sent to sales agents' mobile devices in real-time. Upon arrival at the customers premises, the sales agents complete the quotation and ordering process in the mobile app off of their iPad or Android tablet. They are guided through the entire process step by step, with the ability to select products from the digital product catalogue, decide upon accessories and calculate pricing. Measurements and product combinations are captured by the sales agent and automatically validated against Maxidor's business rules to eliminate any potential mistakes.

Through the implementation of the Grove Journey mobile app, Maxidor has experienced rapid turn-around time, with customers being able to get a quote, sign on the device and have custom-made enhancements installed within 24 hours. They have also seen reduced paper-based errors, increased close rate, improved efficiency and a growth in marketing intelligence.

"This technology has empowered people to stay abreast of cutting-edge technology and affirms Maxidor's position as a visionary organisation. It also positions us with a vision towards the future when it comes to sound environmental practices, for example, reducing our use of paper," said Miklos Hegyi, Director at Maxidor.
