The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has announced the appointment of 19 new members of the National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI) - a body that works closely with the minister to drive government's innovation agenda.

In a statement released today, the DST said NACI would be headed by professor Cheryl de la Rey, vice chancellor and principal of the University of Pretoria, while its members are drawn from various sectors and industries.

Speaking at a welcoming ceremony in Pretoria, science and technology minister Naledi Pandor said all members of the council bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the institution, which is a key priority for government. "I especially want to thank the outgoing Chairperson, Dr Steve Lennon, for his tireless commitment and dedication to the work of NACI," she said.
