Data Centre Central announces conference programme for SA event

Metrics, megatrends, technology and power: What's happening and how it is affecting South Africa's data centre infrastructure and market opportunity.

By Data Centre Central
Johannesburg, 23 Oct 2014

Data Centre Central has announced details of the conference programme for its event at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Rosebank, Johannesburg, on 30 October. Data Centre Central is a new expo and conference being launched to address the unique economic, engineering and legislative aspects of South Africa's data centre market.

The programme for the day covers metrics and standards (delivered by Dee Smith & Associates); new technologies driving infrastructure (Dimension Data); global megatrends (Frost & Sullivan) and South Africa's power base (Eskom). Additionally, technology sessions will be delivered by principal sponsors of Data Centre Central.

Event organiser, Jacqui Gradwell said: "Experience has shown that delegates at data centre events are always hungry for new information, but they want it to be relevant to their situation at work as well as their market context. For this reason, Data Centre Central is delighted that organisations that are well-known in the South African market have agreed to share their thoughts from the platform."

Speaking about metrics and standards, Lee Smith says: "Without measurement and design standards in the data centre, there is no opportunity to establish baselines, or provide analysis and understanding. Metrics drive improvements like increased efficiency, give a view on return on investment, and help stave off the impact of increased operational cost in South Africa's data centres. Standards provide a framework for design requirements which are aligned with redundancy and availability expectations."

Dimension Data will look at new technologies and how this impacts the shift of the infrastructure market, as well as the effect this has on South Africa and Africa.

Eskom's Andr'e de Klerk will provide an outlook regarding South Africa's energy supply in this coming winter and summer. With a current focus on demand side management (DSM), energy efficient products and services and the Power Conservation Program, Andr'e will unpack opportunities for energy efficiency measures and present a case study.

Providing a helicopter view of the global trends impacting South Africa's infrastructure, Gareth Mellon, a Senior Industry Analyst for the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) team at Frost & Sullivan Africa, will address topics including connectivity and convergence, big data analytics, urbanisation, bricks and clicks, and smart everything.

Data Centre Central is for everyone involved in South African data centres. The conference and expo is still open for delegate registrations, please visit www.datacentre-central.com for further details, or reserve your place at Data Centre Central here.
