Satellite TV provider MobileTV has contracted set-top box manufacturer ABT Africa to supply its HD MPEG4 PVR-Ready decoder, according to a joint statement by MobileTV founder Dr Mothobi Mutloatse and ABT's CEO, Muzi Makhaye.
The broadcaster was licensed in April 2014, and says it was the only applicant to have submitted guarantees for funding, detailed market research accompanying its business plan, and programming plans.
"ABT's HD PVR-Ready decoder has been tested according to the highest standard internationally, as well as locally, passing with flying colours even to our exacting demands," says Mutloatse.
Makhaye says that, for the two companies, this deal is a culmination of effort and dedication under trying market circumstances. "Finally, we remain duty-bound to give value to the end-users and our customers on an incremental and sustainable basis.
"ABT shall play its part in ensuring MobileTV's offering stays ahead of the technological curve."
According to Mutloatse, MobileTV will offer a family special as from 1 December, allowing consumers to buy two decoders and get one free.
