Having seen the national outcry of the skills gap among young Black South Africans, especially within the ICT arena; Nambiti Technologies, a 100% Black-owned and managed ICT company has decided to take on the challenge of becoming a player in the market in addressing the ICT skills gap.

Nambiti Technologies has implemented a one-year Web applications software development internship programme targeted at young HDI (historically disadvantaged individuals) graduates, running from 1 October 2014 to 30 September 2015. The participants of the programme are both male and female young Black graduates, of which 80% are from KZN (KwaZulu-Natal) and 20% from Gauteng.

Nambiti Technologies was formed on 20 March 1997, by its founder and current Managing Director, Mr Kevin Paul. Since its inception as a company, Nambiti Technologies has provided professional ICT services to a number of large private and public sector companies in South Africa.

In 2013, Nambiti Technologies established its own ICT Training Academy, located at its head office in Clubview, Centurion, with the aim of predominantly offering ICT software engineering courses, project management and soft skills needed to successfully implement ICT projects.

The internship programme Nambiti Technologies has embarked on is its own initiative and is solely funded by Nambiti Technologies ? accommodation, food, transport and the general welfare of the 10 learners. All this is being done with the drive and passion to address the national ICT skills gap.

Comments from Mr Kevin Paul (Managing Director)

"Nambiti Technologies is extremely proud about taking on this challenge of becoming a player within the market, with respect to ICT skills development and thereby contributing towards addressing the ICT skills gap within the South African market, specifically of HDI graduates," says Paul. "We see this initiative as enabling our medium- to long-term mission of developing our own locally developed software that addresses unique business and socio-economic challenges our country is faced with. Our training academy compliments our own research and development centre that has been established within the company. Our only challenge as a medium-size organisation is the funding required to grow this initiative to such a scale that we seriously begin to address the high unemployment levels, especially that of the youth within our country. We therefore appeal to other relevant stakeholders like MICT (Media, Information and Communication Technologies) SETA to partner with us in addressing job creation and unemployment in our country."
