City Press this morning reports that Jimmy Manyi has taken up a second position at the Department of Communications (DOC).

Manyi is currently a senior manager at Rand Water and has been appointed as an advisor to communications minister Faith Muthambi before finding out whether he was allowed to have to government positions, says the paper.

The paper adds Manyi told Rand Water the position was part-time, and he is submitting annual leave for external engagements.

Quoting head of communications at Rand Water, Fawcett Ngoatje, the paper notes Manyi has submitted a formal declaration of interest to the water body, and it has written to the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) to obtain clarity on the matter.

City Press reports DPSA spokesman Dumisani Nkwamba says Rand Water is not governed by the Public Service Act, which states government staff cannot have two jobs in government. Responding to a request for comment from the paper, Manyi reportedly sent an SMS stating: "Enjoy your weekend."

Manyi, who has often been mired in controversy, was Cabinet spokesman until August 2012, a post he took up after holding the position of DG in the Department of Labour between 2009 and 2011.
