Facebook has introduced its Groups app, which will integrate faster accessibility of groups for people using mobile devices.

In a blog post released this evening, Shirley Sun, the company's product manager, said: "We're introducing a new Facebook Groups app that helps people share faster and more easily with all the groups in their life."

The app's launch is part of the social network's Creative Labs initiative and Sun added a standalone groups app has been in the pipeline for a while.

How it works

When users open the app, they can see all their Facebook groups in one place, with the most frequently used ones located at the top of the list.

The app also enables the following functionality:

* Users can then click 'create' to start a new group.
* They can also track notifications and easily control which ones they want to see.
* The new 'discover' tab allows users to see suggested groups, based on pages being followed, groups that friends belong to as well as their location.

Facebook said group functionality on desktops will not be compromised and the company will look to make that platform faster and better over time. The Groups app will be available on Android and iOS app stores.
