The e-toll advisory panel will present its report to Gauteng premier David Makhura on Sunday, after concluding its assessment of the socio-economic impact the e-tolling system has had on the province since its inception almost a year ago.

The 15-member panel was established by Makhura in July, and has, over the past few months, received input from different stakeholders and civil society organisations, including business, civic labour, as well as national government and the South African National Roads Agency.

"As the provincial government, we appreciate the work that was done by the panel in engaging the people of our province and government on the impact of e-tolls.

"We are also delighted that as per the commitment, the report will be presented to us within the agreed timeframe," said Makhura in a statement.

Earlier this month, Makhura defended the panel, saying he is happy with the work it had done to date, and adding its work was important to the province. During recent weeks, various political parties and other prominent figures have criticised the panel for not having any real impact on e-tolling.

However, e-toll opponents - such as the Justice Project SA and the Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance - have applauded the panel, saying it had by and large stuck to its mandate and brought the e-tolling discussion into the public domain.
