PayPal is targeting festive season shoppers in its new partnership with USaddress.com.

Online payment systems company PayPal has partnered with USaddress.com, enabling sub-Saharan African countries to buy from US-based e-commerce outlets.

The company, which is targeting festive season shoppers, says customers ordering through USaddress.com will receive up to $10 (R110) off in coupons that can be used 10 times.

PayPal said customers can shop at any US online retailer and can use a "local mail address" supplied by USaddress.com that can be used if a US merchant does not ship to SA. In those cases, packages will be delivered to a logistics centre, after which it will be sent to recipients.

"The delivery is then dispatched to their doorstep anywhere in the world, including in SA, and most sub-Saharan Africa countries," the company said.

Meanwhile, local e-tailers also aim to cash in on the festive season, with Internet shopping spend expected to hit the R6 billion mark by the end of 2014, compared to R688 million when the e-commerce curve started its marked rise in 2006.
