The Competition Tribunal has approved Internet Solusions' (IS) takeover of three MWeb units, following a hearing earlier today.

In September, Dimension Data (DiData) said IS will buy MWeb's core network assets, MWeb Business and Optinet, although MWeb Connect will retain its consumer ISP business and MWeb's WiFi business does not form part of this agreement.

The Competition Commission recently paved way for the deal to take place, on condition that no more than 35 employees of the merged entity should be retrenched because of the deal.

The Competition Tribunal issued the following brief statement:

"Today the Competition Tribunal confirmed the two settlement agreements it heard this morning. The Tribunal approved the Dimension Data / Mweb transaction on the conditions recommended by the Competition Commission. The Tribunal approved the remaining mergers without conditions".
