Questions you should ask your infrastructure partner

Companies must consider their current and future infrastructure needs, including the utilisation of cloud technology, says Ralph Berndt, director - Sales, Client Relationship and Marketing at Syrex.

Johannesburg, 20 Jan 2015

The ICT industry has changed dramatically over recent months, particularly with the emergence of multiple players and the developments that have specifically occurred within the communications and telecommunications sectors, says Ralph Berndt, Director - Sales, Client Relationship and Marketing, Syrex.

As a direct result of this, there are now many additional issues to be considered and/or answered regarding a company's current and future infrastructure needs, including the utilisation and exploitation of cloud technology and possible moves to it from a current on-premises position.

Thus, the following key questions are critical to all businesses and need to be understood and addressed regarding the choice of an appropriate partner going forward:

* Does your partner know and understand the core application(s) of your business, how to make it/them 'cloud-ready' and how and when to move it/them to the cloud?
* Does your partner understand your business, its risks and your ICT architecture?
* Is your partner able to design, implement, manage and support the connectivity that is needed both today and tomorrow?
* Is your partner able to help you move from a physical to a virtual environment and, when relevant, to a cloud-based architecture?
* Does your partner have the tools to configure, deliver and install the hardware and software components that are required?
* Is your partner just outsourcing everything to another partner or are they the ones that make the call when it comes to the crunch?
* Does your partner understand and control all the elements involved in running, maintaining and monitoring an IT infrastructure?
* Does your partner provide a fully agnostic Internet solution that ensures the best suited product for your business in each location in which you operate?
* Is your partner suitably qualified to do the work and advise correctly going forward?
* Does your partner have 20 years of experience in ISP/ICT infrastructure implementation and management?
* Is your partner able to offer true VOIP telephony and workable solutions?
* Does your partner support both Microsoft and open source environments?

Syrex is one such company that can positively answer 'yes' to all the above.
