All of Neotel's sales and marketing staff will now report to Craige Fleischer.

Craige Fleischer, who until last month was director of Samsung Mobile SA, has joined Neotel as chief sales and marketing officer.

Fleischer replaces Stefano Mattielo, who left the company some time ago, although it's unclear when exactly he and Neotel parted ways.

In his new role, Fleischer - who started to work at the company last week - will handle all of the sales and marketing staff, who had previously been reporting to group CEO Sunil Joshi in the absence of a head of sales and marketing.

Fleischer spent just more than three years at Samsung, before moving to Neotel, which is currently the subject of a R7 billion bid by SA's largest cellular company, Vodacom. Last week, the Independent Communications Authority of SA wrapped up hearings into the bid and is set to make its decision in March.

However, even if the regulator gives its go-ahead for the transaction - which will allow Vodacom to fast-track its fibre plans - the deal will still have to be approved by the competition authorities. As of Friday, the Competition Commission was still working on the matter, after which it will be referred to the tribunal.

Before joining Samsung, Fleischer spent a year at Research In Motion, which has since been renamed as BlackBerry, as regional director for Southern Africa, a post he was promoted to after almost two years as a commercial director, according to his LinkedIn profile.
