Woolworths CIO Danny Naidoo has resigned and will leave the retail giant at the end of next month.

It is also understood Naidoo intends stepping away from the ICT industry, but Woolworths did not immediately respond to questions about the reasons for his resignation, nor who would step in to replace him.

Naidoo has been with the group since September 2012, having previous held the position of general manager: technology at Old Mutual.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Naidoo has extensive experience in various industries, including ICT, retail, technology marketing; financial services; telecommunications and the public sector.

He was nominated as a visionary CIO 2014 finalist in ITWeb's 2014 IT Personality and Visionary CIO awards, in November.

A Woolworths spokesperson did confirm this afternoon that Naidoo resigned at the end of last year.
