MPEG LA today announced the availability of the DisplayPort Patent Portfolio Licence. The DisplayPort Licence provides coverage for a variety of digital interface technology standards used in connecting audio/video sources among products such as computer monitors, video projectors, televisions, adaptors, personal computers, graphics cards, motherboards, storage devices, smartphones, tablets, flat panel displays and cameras.

"Once again, MPEG LA is proud to be part of the solution," said MPEG LA President and CEO Larry Horn. "Like MPEG LA's other licences, our licence for DisplayPort gives product suppliers convenient access to important technologies under a single patent licence, enabling them to focus their resources on innovation and new product creation instead of protracted licensing and litigation. It is the marketplace at work."

Initial DisplayPort technology owners include Hitachi Maxell, Koninklijke Philips, Silicon Image, and Sony Corporation.

Copies of the DisplayPort Patent Portfolio Licence agreement may be obtained at http://www.mpegla.com/main/programs/DisplayPort/Pages/AgreementExpress.aspx. A summary of the licence terms is attached.

MPEG LA welcomes any party that believes it has patents that are essential to the DisplayPort standard to submit them for an evaluation of their essentiality by MPEG LA's patent experts and inclusion in the licence if determined to be essential. Interested parties may request a copy of the terms and procedures governing patent submissions at http://www.mpegla.com/main/programs/DisplayPort/Pages/Licensors.aspx. MPEG LA's objective is to provide worldwide access to as much DisplayPort essential intellectual property as possible for the benefit of licensees (new patent holders and essential patents may be added at no additional royalty during the current term of the licence).
