From the beginning of this month, Kevin Attard has been appointed interim country leader for Oracle South Africa.
Attard, who joined Oracle in September 2004 to open the Oracle office in Malta, takes over from Pieter Bensch who was appointed MD of HP's local operation this month.
In 2007, Attard relocated to Vienna, Austria, to assume regional roles, including setting up the Oracle applications midmarket business for the Eastern European and Commonwealth of Independent States region.
In June 2012, his role was extended to cover the applications solution portfolio in Eastern Europe, CIS, Russia and Middle East Africa region (ECEMEA).
Under that role, Attard was transferred to the UK as applications strategy and sales development senior director to steer the ECEMEA region and build an expert team of geographical and product specialists.
Attard has 22 years of experience in IT. Prior to Oracle, he spent three years at Air Malta, where he led the Oracle e-Business Suite implementation across the national airline's operations, including the design and development of an airline route economics system which is today used by several airlines.
Before Air Malta, Attard held various management positions, including CIO of Malta beverage producer Marsovin and Oracle practice leader at Oracle partner Megabyte. He holds a masters degree in business and administration from the Grenoble Ecole de Management in France.
Bensch held various positions at Oracle, since 2005. These included vice-president of Oracle Europe, Middle East and Africa, vice-president of customer support for MEA and, finally, VP and MD of Oracle SA (since November 2010).
Under Bensch, Oracle last year debuted the first local CIO Summit, which addressed the changing role of the CIO and the top IT strategy issues for the year.
