WeChat Africa has appointed Makhosazana Zwane-Siguqa as its first head of content.

Zwane-Siguqa says in her new position, she will create and implement WeChat Africa's content and messaging strategy within and outside the platform.

The fact that Africa's media consumption growth is mobile-driven presents WeChat with unprecedented opportunities that go far beyond any other messaging app in the space, says Zwane-Siguqa.

Her immediate plan is to build a cohesive communication and content strategy that will engage, inform and entertain WeChat's audience.

"I'm incredibly excited to join WeChat and its community. This is an opportunity to marry my background and expertise in traditional publishing with digital innovations and concepts," says Zwane-Siguqa.

Brett Loubser, head of WeChat Africa, says the company is excited about the fresh perspective Zwane-Siguqa will bring to WeChat. "She has an excellent reputation in the industry and brings expert insights and imagination to the platform."

Zwane-Siguqa joins WeChat from Drum magazine, where she was the brand's youngest editor. She worked as editor of Move! Magazine and was founding editor of Move! Best Parent.

She was named one of Mail & Guardian's top 200 young people to take to lunch, and serves as a council committee member for the South African National Editors' Forum.

Zwane-Siguqa holds a media management and senior management programme qualification from the University of Stellenbosch Business School. She also has a diploma in business-to-business marketing from Unisa and a public leadership programme with the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Development Policy and Practice. Zwane-Siguqa is in her final year of Intellectual Property Law.

She will based at WeChat in Johannesburg.
