Setumo Mohapi, formerly CEO of the state's signal distributor Sentech, has officially taken the reins at government's embattled IT procurement arm, the State IT Agency (SITA).
This follows a week of controversy and uncertainty as to Mohapi's appointment as head of SITA, news of which Cabinet seemingly inadvertently leaked after a meeting held on 18 March.
However, the appointment is now official, with Sentech's board having accepted Mohapi's resignation on Monday.
Mohapi took up the position as SITA CEO as of today. He becomes the 18th chief executive in the entity's 15-year history.
He takes over from Sithembiso Freeman Nomvalo, who was appointed SITA CEO - initially for the temporary period of a year - at the end of May 2013.
In a statement sent out today, Sentech says Mohapi "acknowledged that it is always an honour and a privilege to be given an opportunity to perform important work in public service as he has done at Sentech over the last four years".
The board says plans are in place "to ensure a smooth transition into a new era of leadership at Sentech".
Sentech did not indicate who the candidates for CEO are. In the meantime, Sentech chief financial officer Rudzani Rasikhinya has been appointed as the acting chief executive.
Mohapi has led Sentech - often being accredited with a turnaround of the entity - since 1 November 2010.
