Instagram users will now have two new options with which to edit their pictures.

Instagram released two creative updates to its editing system yesterday: Colour and Fade.

The Colour tool allows users to tint the highlights or shadows within a picture. There is a choice between yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, cyan or green tints.

The Fade tool allows users to soften the colours within pictures, and there is a slider in place to measure the intensity of the fade.

The latest updates are only available on Android at the moment through the Google Play store. Instagram has said these updates will be available for Apple users within the next few days.

Earlier this year, Instagram introduced a "carousel ads" feature that lets brands share images through the app with links to outside sites. While company executives have said the main focus at the moment is on boosting users, there is a slow move to expand its money-making advertising features.

Last month, the Facebook-owned app introduced Layout, a separate app that lets users combine multiple pictures into one single image.

Facebook acquired Instagram in 2012 for $1 billion. The platform has 300 million monthly users.
