The latest HTC One smartphone was launched in SA last night. The HTC One M9 will be available from Vodacom and MTN in June, while pre-orders open in May.

The new smartphone was announced at Mobile World Conference in Spain earlier this year. It is slightly lighter than last year's M8 and still has the same aluminium unibody. The body now comes in a dual-tone finish, "an industry first," Neeraj Seth, HTC head of marketing, claimed last night.

"The HTC One M9 is an extension of you as it is attractive, intuitive and highly customisable. We are positive South Africans will love the many benefits it will bring to their lifestyles," said Seth.

Features include a 20MP camera that shoots movies in 4K resolution. The UltraPixel front-facing camera produces light pictures in low light situations, with low noise. The customisable themes function analyses a chosen picture and then modifies the look of apps, colour schemes and backgrounds.

Prices are yet to be confirmed and will be released by the service providers in May.

The smartphone will be available at first in silver and gold dual-tone finish and single-tone gunmetal grey, with other colours being released in limited editions afterwards.
