Value-added distributor WestconGroup Southern Africa has appointed Fozia Martin as channel manager for consumer solutions.

This is a new position the company has created, as it seeks to support its vendor partners and reseller customers.

The appointment comes after the company appointed Michelle Themelis as its Microsoft channel manager within its cloud business practice this month.

WestconGroup this week also appointed Denan Erasmus as Palo Alto channel manager. He joins the company from Introstat.

Martin will look after four vendors: Prestigio, Canyon, ACME and iWALK. "I want to be as effective as possible in my new role at WestconGroup Southern Africa by creating maximum awareness of my brands and by growing my brands into sustainable market differentiators within the IT space."

She joins the company from Mustek, where she was senior sales product administrator for Lenovo and a global software brand for the past three years.

In the short term, she plans to be competitive in introducing new and improved products to the consumer market. "In the long term, I want to increase sales and broaden WestconGroup Southern Africa's consumer customer base by introducing new and exciting brands. I will also strive to obtain products from a wider supply chain which will, in turn, allow me to negotiate the best possible prices to maximise our profits."

Martin notes there are many inferior quality products flooding the consumer IT market at the moment and the differentiator in the industry will be better quality brands and support thereof. "In addition to this, there is a great demand for the latest consumer IT products currently and I see this trend with the Generation Y and Z."

She believes her new role comes with challenges. "There will be challenges and there are always challenges in the IT space. A possible challenge could be that there are already established brands at present, so getting into the market will be challenging but certainly not impossible."

"I am thrilled to welcome Fozia to the consumer solutions division and believe her experience and energy will serve her well in her new position," says Heinz Stephan, consumer solutions director, WestconGroup Southern Africa.

"I look forward to seeing her develop and grow new vendors in our portfolio and expand reseller relationships for WestconGroup within the consumer solutions division."
