The increase in the number of organisations using cloud applications is driving the requirement for CIOs to extend existing security policies to different devices - as well as manage and control the use of cloud applications.

This is according to CensorNet CEO Ed Macnair, who will speak on the second day of ITWeb Security Summit 2015, which is on at Vodacom World, Midrand, from 26 to 28 May.

Macnair notes existing solutions address either Web security or cloud application control requirements, but not both.

These are the top five concerns he identifies that businesses have around cloud application use, which have necessitated heightened control measures:

1. Security
2. Compliance
3. Shadow IT
4. Bring your own device
5. Productivity

"The availability and ease of deploying cloud applications has increased the incidence of employees using unauthorised applications to process corporate data [and] more employees use personal devices to access, process and store corporate data."

Macnair says CensorNet's aim is to "redefine the secure Web gateway" by providing organisations with greater visibility and better control in the supervision of company-wide Internet access and the use of cloud applications across all devices.

"We are seizing the huge market opportunity that currently presents itself, as traditional Web security offerings lack the ability to address the proliferation of cloud application use in the modern mobile work environment."

The company is working with the channel and says it will soon bring new solutions to both SA and the sub-Saharan region at large.
