ISACA South Africa Chapter holds AGM

Johannesburg, 05 May 2015

The ISACA South Africa Chapter AGM was held at the Balalaika Hotel in Sandton on 15 April 2015. The chapter's president, Kenneth Chikwanha, presented on the achievements and work by the chapter over the past 12 months, including the 2014 awards for Best Very Large Chapter in Europe and Africa, as well as a 2014 communications commendation.

The president introduced the entire board and support staff to the membership. He advised that Chris Knox (Eastern Cape representative) had resigned from the board for personal reasons.

The president noted that ISACA SA is the third-largest chapter in the Europe/Africa region and eighth-largest chapter in the world, where, notably, the chapter's membership grew by 3% in 2014. Trishee Jobraj is responsible for the chapter's marketing and membership portfolio.

Chikwanha acknowledged the critical roles of the chapter's regional co-ordinators, thanking them for providing regional educational and networking meetings for members and guests. The chapter's regional co-ordinators are Arlene Volmink (Western Cape), Ivo Meyer (Port Elizabeth), Simpiwe Habe (East London), Terence Fogarty (KZN), Rudairo Zimunya (Johannesburg), and Raymond Kene (Pretoria).

Chikwanha noted a 6% growth in exam entrants in respect of the certifications offered by ISACA, where certification and education is the charge of Pono Pitsoe, who is currently planning bootcamps, improved examination conditions, and the co-ordination of the CSX exams. The president also highlighted that the chapter continues to display a notable growth in its social media following, especially on LinkedIn, where Noleen Williamson is responsible for communications.

Chikwanha went on to note the role of Naeem Seedat in ensuring ongoing liaisons between ISACA, AGSA and government CIOs with a view to achieving longer-term benefits regarding the governance of IT within the public sector. Kenneth Palliam has contributed considerably in terms of building relations between local academic institutions and ISACA SA.

Chikwanha highlighted that the chapter had remained fully compliant, where the president thanked Tshidi Modiragale, the ISACA SA secretary, for this achievement. The chapter's treasurer, Jonanda Olivier, presented the details of the chapter's sound financial position. Chikwanha thanked the chapter's office manager, Nadine Schreiber, for her continued excellence in chapter administration, and formally welcomed ISACA SA's new office assistant, Boitumelo Nkadimeng.

Chikwanha thanked the chapter's volunteers and sponsors for their continued support, acknowledging the following sponsor organisations (in alphabetical order): Absa Capital, APMG-International, the Auditor-General South Africa, BCX, BST-Technology, CA Southern Africa, Deloitte, Derivco, EY, Fox IT Service Management South Africa, the IIA, itSMFsa, KPMG, Mobius Consulting, Morvest, the NMMU, Old Mutual, Performanta, Pink Elephant, PwC, Real IRM Solutions, the Road Accident Fund, Santam, SizweNtsalubaGobodo, T-Systems and Wolfpack Information Risk.

The president then reminded all of the upcoming 2015 Annual Conference to be held in Johannesburg from 3 August. The 2015 conference is to include an Iaugural Cybersecurity (CSX) Fundamentals workshop, a CAE Forum, a CIO Forum, and a COBIT Forum. Keynote speakers will include the past ISACA international president, as well as the deputy Auditor General of SA.

Tichaona Zororo, the chapter's Vice-President, is responsible for the annual conference, together with being responsible for many other chapter-related matters.

The president noted as a 2015 initiative that ISACA International is to conduct a membership remodelling exercise (internal and benchmarking) in recognition of the evolving competitive landscape and the need to deliver even more value to its membership.

The guest speaker for the evening was Dr Claudelle von Eck of the IISA SA. Dr Von Eck presented on: "Leadership in 21st century Africa". Her talk was filled with many insights into developing sustainable leadership qualities and strategies, in line with the chapter's strategy of establishing a strong culture of leadership. During 2015, the chapter is to explore options around a joint learnership programme with the IIA to elevate its professional profile and to enhance the value of its certifications. On a related note, the chapter is currently renewing its memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the IIA. During the past financial year, MOUs were established with the ACFE, where MOUs with IRMSA, itSMFsa and IOD are in progress.
