Specialist software and solutions group DVT, through its DVT Academy division, has launched a set of new ICAgile-certified training courses for business analysts and software testers respectively.

Intended as the 'next step' beyond DVT's popular Agile Fundamentals training, the new courses expand DVT's ICAgile offerings for business professionals along two distinct tracks: Agile Business Value Management and Agile Testing and Test Automation.

The ICAgile Certified Professional in Business Value Analysis (ICP-BVA) course is designed for business analysts and other professionals charged with agile software delivery, emphasising the delivery of business value through the creation of conducive development environments and collaboration structures.

The ICAgile Testing course (ICP-TST) focuses mainly on agile testing techniques and processes through the mindset and role of the agile tester, including the ability to differentiate between different types of testing on an agile project, and exploring how business, development and testing professionals can best collaborate in an agile environment.

DVT principal agile consultant Stephen de Villiers Graaff says the new courses were designed by DVT in conjunction with ICAgile, and are delivered in South Africa by DVT's ICAgile-certified trainers.

"It's important that the courses we design not only meet the demands of the local market, but are internationally recognised so that skills are transferrable between companies and countries," says De Villiers Graaff.

"Software development is a very transportable skill, which really opens up the market for graduates with the right qualifications," he says. "Because of the nature of the work, and the fact that ICAgile certification is an internationally recognised quality standard, they often don't even have to relocate in order to work on projects in other countries."

The US-based International Consortium for Agile (ICAgile) sets the industry standard for agile training and certification. To attain ICAgile certification, training courses need to follow strict design criteria, be ratified by ICAgile group members, and be delivered by ICAgile-certified and qualified trainers. This maintains the uniformity and quality of the coursework, irrespective of where in the world it's delivered.

Prospective applicants for DVT's new courses must first complete the ICAgile Professional (ICP) certification, which is also offered by the DVT Academy. Both two-day courses will take place in Johannesburg and Cape Town (with other cities on request), at a cost of R6 500 (ex-VAT) per person.
