International fashion chains leave SA retailers under further pressure

Johannesburg, 29 May 2015

Sync continues to firmly secure its place as market leader in Apparel ERP software in SA, with 10 new Sync implementations into apparel businesses already confirmed for 2015. This includes another one of South Africa's biggest JSE-listed fashion retailers. And with the increasing competitive pressure South African fashion retailers are under, it isn't surprising that more and more businesses in the industry are taking further control of their business processes and procedures by using an ERP and PLM system with a proven track record.

The past three years have seen a transformation of South Africa's fashion retail sector, with more international brands entering the local market. Fast-fashion pioneer Zara began the trend, followed closely by other global clothing retailers, including Cotton On, Top Shop and more.

Next on the fast approaching horizon will be H&M, the world's second-largest fashion chain, which will grace SA with its presence later this year. H&M's press officer Hacan Andersson reportedly confirmed a few months ago that the flagship store will open at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, and a lease has reportedly also been signed to open an H&M store in the Mall of Africa in Johannesburg.

The introduction of yet another international fashion giant into the local market will further increase the need for South African retailers to rethink the way in which they operate, and to embrace the ever-increasing trend of fast fashion in the industry. The iSyncSolutions team, which is constantly at work to further develop and enhance Sync, is fully aware of this. Sync facilitates fast fashion, as it is a comprehensive, all-encompassing software solution that manages the entire garment sourcing and manufacturing process, improving visibility throughout the product life cycle of a garment, enabling quick response and reducing lead times.

As Sync expands into the international market, having recently opened its first branch in the USA, watch this space to see how a closer hands-on look at the international apparel market further enhances the company's industry knowledge. This in turn gets translated into product upgrades to remain ahead of the game and continue to meet the ever-changing needs of the competitive apparel industry.
